Looking to purchase a bait and tackle shop that has been in business for 25+ years and expand its marketing, operations, and its appeal to tourism. It also has a 1500 sq/ft living area which I could use as a home. I am trying to retire to this lifestyle in an area that has terrific potential.

I hear Thrivant works especially for Lutherans, and I know there are other lending institutions that focus on other denominations.

However, the best financing any person buying a business is the previous owner. You’ll get better terms, more ongoing commitment, and more flexibility when you go this route. I would say putting no more than 30% down on the business is a good idea. If they can’t wait a little for their cash, then that’s a good indication that they don’t necessarily believe in what they’re selling you.

A good business broker (if you know one or are using one) will get your foot in the door to many different types of financing.

At the end of the day, whether Christian or not, the value create is the value you produce. That’ll get you better financing, better long-term prospects, and much more satisfaction from your work.

    Good Luck
